This is night music. This is music that waits until the party is over and the doors are locked and the beats are tucked snugly into the DJ’s case of records. This is music that guides you home when the sky is black and the streets are deserted and your feet are throbbing. This is music that keeps you company when you’re dozing in the back seat, thinking about the lights and the energy and the one with the amazing smile who danced next to you all night long.
This is not easy music but it is willing to slip into the background and wait for you. And once you’re ready, it will reward you. The compositions are deep and complex. The rhythms weave like heartbeats. The arrangements support the warm but impenetrable vocals that lift the record. (Sascha Ring is best known for his contributions to Moderat, and his singing here is as close as his solo work comes to Moderat.)
This isn’t for everyone, but if you like experimental ambient music or IDM or night music, then give this a chance.
You’re right. It is totally night music and for me, it is more specifically night driving music. While they have musically little in common, the album feels similar in mood to Pink Moon or something along those lines. Nighttime, driving, low key and yet not really comfortable. Yearning.
