Grateful Dead – Madison Square Garden, New York, 3/9/81 | 3/10/81: This week was a deep dive into these two shows. Some things that blew me away:

  1. There is so much to uncover in these two shows, and I hear different things every time I listen. A big one for me is that this is the best live version of “Brokedown Palace” I’ve heard yet.
  2. So many bands play the same stuff the same way every night, and this completely rejects that approach. Two completely different sets on two back-to-back nights. This is my favorite kind of live music.
  3. They took intermissions. I can’t imagine that today
