Album covers listed in this Listening Journal

Various Artists – Alterity: I wonder why I don’t listen to more experimental electronic dance music. This has most of the things I love about dance music, and it scratches my itch to challenge my ears and my brain with sounds I’ve never heard before.

Ben Watt – Buzzin’ Fly, Vol. III: The beginning of the week was cold and rainy, more like early December than early October. I needed music that reminds me of light and joy, and deep house definitely fits that bill. This isn’t as bright and joyful as Watt’s Lazy Dog sets, but it’s a great soundtrack for a wintry fall day.

Ben Watt – Storm Damage: This record conjures the best moments of Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1. That is high praise, given my 30+ year affection for George Michael’s greatest recording.

Fleetwood Mac – Tusk: Someday I’m going to write a long article about this album. It’ll be a lot of words that say it’s a good record but not a great one.

Various Artists – Trojan Reggae Chill-Out Box Set: It’s not my favorite reggae compilation, and not even my favorite Trojan box set. However, you haven’t lived until you’ve heard a reggae cover of Dave Brubeck’s “Take 5” in 4/4.
